Meet Shira

I have been drawn to a path of self-discovery for myself and to helping others through their unique paths, my entire life. It took all of my 20s to discover my inner voice and compass; to begin to trust that when I slow down and listen, I can't go wrong, even when the choices that emerge are unconventional. It took much of my 30s to settle into this knowledge and to keep trusting the process of unfolding, for myself and for my clients. My late 30s and early 40s have so far been about deepening my relationships with others (as a parent, daughter, spouse, sister, friend, therapist, colleague, neighbor…), from an authentic, connected place. To pause and truly enjoy moments of connection, and to trust the strength of relationships to hold moments of awkwardness and disconnection. The peace that comes with accepting and trusting where I am and where the other person is, is unparalleled, and the clarity that emerges out of that place is quite different from forced clarity (the hard work and tension that come from figuring things out). I find immense joy in sharing that peace and that freedom with others.

I have had remarkable teachers along the way to help me learn the methods and develop the tools that support this process of listening.   In addition to my training as a clinical social worker (University of Wisconsin-Madison), the two methods that I have settled on learning in-depth are Internal Family Systems therapy (200+ formal training hours) and the Feldenkrais Method of Somatic Education (1100+ formal training hours).  I have used these methods and additional meditation training to develop a personal meditation practice that works for me, and I draw on all these tools to be present to clients in the ways that are useful to them.  For more information about internal family systems therapy and how it fits into our work together, go to my blog post here.

Wishing you peace and clarity.

warmly,

Shira
